Post July 4th

July 4th was great this year. Boston has a widely known tradition surrounding America's Independence, as there were numerous events that took place in Boston.

It started on July 3rd with the rehearsal for the Pops 4th Concert. It was great. There were about 40+ friends that showed up.

The 4th started early with the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of the National Antheum. Then they had a parade to the place were the Declaration of Independence was read for many past years, as it was read this year.

I was with Cheryl and Amy, as their husbands were in far away lands (or New York and Cali.) It was fun to hang out with them. Especially since Cheryl is moving to N Cali. After all the traditional 4th events, we took a ferry ride out to the "oldest" lighthouse in America, Brewster Lighthouse on Little Brewster Island in the Boston Harbor. (I quote it becuase everyone says there whatever is the "oldest.") It was really windy and we werent able to even get off. Which was fine as by this point I was feeling very under the weather with allergies.

Vanilla

I now work in the land of vanilla. The boring, quiet people of the 5th floor at 347 Congress St

Along with the new position, There came a new place for my desk, or rather, cube. I was working on the 6th floor of a 6 floor building. It is the 'Executive Floor', and, therefore, can be view by others in the company, as the "scary floor." There are stories circulating about how the owner would just show up to work, and do random things like fire people on the spot when he would pass them in the hallways. Or how he would ask you Gross Profit on the Top 5 Cruises in Europe. Or what was the average response rate of a Catalog promotion that was mailed to atleast 60% FTs. All alittle scary if these were not your areas of concern.

Well, I never had any negative encounters with him. In fact, my experience on the 6th floor was all realitively positive. I especially enjoyed those that worked around me. Lots of fun people, and wild stories to tell. . . .

But now, Im on the 5th floor. The decor leads one to think that its the money floor. In fact, a large portion of it is dedicated to Finance. There are also IS people, and Inventory people. And then the, sometimes, three Paul Gauguin people.

ITS SO QUIET! I can hear my self think. I can heard everyone's conversations. I can hear everyone typing. I can hear all the creaking from the floor about me. (Oh, how I know they are having fun up there. I know, I was there once.)

Im totally rethinking this whole new position thing. Is it really worth it?

Singing Beach

Oh my goodness! I went to Manchester by the Sea today and Singing Beach. Such beauty! I love it. The weather was amazing and the view was great. The water was so clear, but abit cold. I do love the beach.

Newport Flower Show

I went to the Newport Flower Show. I have wanted to go for 4 years, ever since I first went to Newport while attending the Deutsche Summer School. And I finally went last weekend. It was beautiful. Between the weather and the gorgeous flowers, one couldnt have asked for a better day. I also just simply love Newport. I have had some great memories there. It was alittle hard to spend time in Rhode Island not see Val. But I made it. Each day it gets just alittle easier.

BSO

I decided to take a different train home last night, and ended up at Symphony Hall. As I was coming above ground, I saw my friend Jamie. We chatted for a minute. She was waiting for two other friends. As we were chatting, some lady stopped and offered us three tickets for free. After a few calls, I was able to find one other girl to go with me.

It was my first Boston Symphony Orchestra experience, which is kinda sad as its around the corner from my house. It was "Oscar & Tony" night. They played music from Robin Hood, My Fair Lady, West Side Story, Sound of Music, and a few others. It was great. I really enjoyed the conductor. It was Steven Mercurio. He was so enthusiastic, energetic, and just simply happy to be there.

It was an enjoyable suprise of an evening.

Melia Kate

Melia Kate Midgley came Tuesday Jun 12th! 8lb, 10 oz, with a full head of brown hair. She is a very pleasent baby thus far. She is very beloved by her two older brothers, parents, and many extended family. It will be fun to see her turn into her own little self throughout the years.

Paul Gauguin

I decided to stay in Boston and take the new position. I think it will be a great opportunity for me. Lots of learning and growth. Im excited for business trips to Florida! (Im sure I wont be excited as I plan for the first or the twentieth! But for now the prospect of spending time in sun looks great!) Its not as much money as I was expecting. But every little bit helps. Im excited to work with new people. Im excited to learn more about inventory and managing a large Marketing Budget ($2.4 Million. YES! I did say Millions!) Granted that all does make me nervous too, but not really. It will be good. I will dreadfully miss my current team, and supervisor. We have lots of fun together. But it has been a good 10 months for me. The longest I have ever been in one position here at Grand Circle.

Now I need to find a place to live. Arrgghh. The drama continues in my life. There was a posting on the church housing website for our ward for a in-law suite for cheap. After inquiring about it, I found the lady to be super weird and sketchy, wanting to know my whole life story and bishop reference before showing me the place. I did find a room to sublet for Aug, but that still leaves finding an actual place. I dont really want to find an apartment and girls to fill it. I just want to rent a room. Not finding much luck, especially since I want to save some money from what I have been paying.

But, even through all this drama, for some reason Im starting to feel like things will work out. Its not a feeling that I have had much over the last three weeks. Im glad that its coming though. I didnt know how much longer I could last without it. I love the gospel and the simple blessing of the Spirit in my life. Oh how it makes this crazy world doable! Im so grateful for it.
