Florida

I just got back from a wonderful 4 days in the sunny, warm state of Florida. I must say that Im only saying warm for the benefit of others. I was freezing in the 60+ degree weather. I went with Blair Ford and Robin Silk. They are both in the ward, easy-going, and amusing. I was a refreshing change from my last travel buddy. (I want to add pictures, but my internet connection at home is totally shady. Hopefully Ill get them on soon.)

Day 1 - Red Sox vs Dodgers at Dodgertown in Vero Beach.
We woke up early, and drove the 1.5 hours from Orlando to Vero Beach. We were there early enough for batting practice. I absolutely love Spring Training Games. The players are so close. The stadium is so small and personal. At the top of the 3rd, after 3 home runs, the rains came. Sheer down pour. We huddled under a cardboard box with two other Red Sox Fans.
After the wash out, we headed out to the beach. It was cool, but the water was warm. Then we headed to the hotel. I found it on hotels.com, and confirmed it with Blair. It was cheap, but we figured that we would only be there one night so whatever. Vero Beach RESORT. And a resort it WAS NOT. First of all. The registration desk was at the IHOP! There were outside corridors! The carpets in the rooms were horrible. And the worst was that there were the NASTY men hanging around outside there rooms. There were rude and cat calling us. We didnt want to spend much time at the hotel. Therefore, we headed off to dinner, shopping, and a movie and were out until midnight.
Day 2 - Vero Beach to Orlando
We woke up at 6, and we were out by 620 with smiles on our faces. We were heading to the beach to watch the sunrise. Needless to see, the sunrise wasnt until 730! But it was beautiful and amazing. I have seen the sunset in Cairo, which was an amazing sight! We headed up the coast and stopped for breakfast at a little "Eatery." We were the youngest patrons by, oh so, 30 years!
As we had an early start, we had some time to kill before prime beach time, off to Kennedy Space Center. As it was alittle on the expensive side, we walked around the the grounds, and headed back to the beach. Cocoa Beach was a nice beach, but it left alittle to the imagination. I liked South Beach in Miami much better. But it was the beach, it was sun, it was relaxing. We were out for about 4 hrs. And that was about an hour to much for me. I was quit red and burnt the rest of the trip.
We left the beach for Orlando. We got back to the hotel, after alittle shopping. We got to Downtown Disney just in time for Circus de Soleil's La Nouba. I absolutely loved it. Im so amazed at the talent all wrapped up into one show. As it was St. Patty's Day, we went out to Pleasure Island and headed over to the R&B Club. After sitting and watching for about 3 songs, we walked out realizing that we will never be finding our husbands in a place like that.
Day 3 - Disney
I havent been back to Florida, or rather Orlando, since 2000. I really loved my time I spent at Disney. I loved working at the Food & Fun Center. I loved my roommates. I loved being in Florida. I loved the freedom I had.

Magic Kindgom was the park we choose. It was great. Except for the constant cutting off on the walk ways from strollers, and children who think that they were the only ones around. It was fun/weird to see all the little girls dressed up as there favorite Princess. I did see one boy dressed up as some creature from Monsters Inc, or something like that. I think that I might not ever let my child do that. Unless its simply not a fight worth fighting at that time. For lunch, we headed over to the Contemporary Hotel. It was weird to see my old place. There were a few people I knew. I must say that I half excepted to see Willie. Willie was the boy that I was seeing in Florida, and who I got in trouble and had to leave early do to him in my apartment after hours. I did hear that he moved on to another Resort. I liked him. I thought that he had great potential. . . .
After spending another few hours we decided that we needed to go get some dinner. We ate at Bahama Breeze. It was so delicious. We got back to Disney in time to watch the fireworks and spend a few more hours riding rides. It was so nice as most of the little ones in strollers were in bed, and their mothers were not continually cutting us off. We rode the Tea Cups, Dumbo, Snow White, Tomorrowland Transit Authority (which was surprising a great, relaxing ride) Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Buzz Light Year something-or-other, Monsters Inc Comedy Club Show. Disney was good.

1) Before the Tea Cups 2) Enjoying Fudge on Main St 3) The cutest little girl dressed up as her favorite princess ready to get autographs from all of the characters, oh to be young again.

Day 4 - Orlando to home again
We finally got a chance to sleep in and relaxingly got ready. We made are way to Nordstroms, for (big surprise) more shopping. Needless to say, that I spent too much money, although I was low on summer shirts prior to the trip. We ate at the Cafe Bistro, in Nordstroms, but I wasnt that happy with it. I spent so much money on something that we less than par. The girls liked their food, so maybe it was just me! A pretty fair assumption as I could be the worlds pickiest eater.

Not really know what all we could do to pass the next 4 hrs until we needed to get to the airport, we headed to Celebration, FL. Disneys Town. It was almost as we stepped into Pleasantville. We got ice cream and enjoyed the sites. And sites I mean the man made lake/pond, and the old people. Lots of old people sitting in rocking chairs by this lake/pond thing. It was really crazy how much this place was straight out of perfectville.
Another 2 hrs to kill. We headed to the temple. It was beautiful. I spent many an hours there years ago. Church was really short and I didnt always get to go. So I would spend time reading my scriptures at the temple. Somehow I felt like that was making up for missed time.
And the trip was coming to a slow end. After turning in the rental car and checking in, we had plenty of time for dinner at Outback. Delicious. It was great end to a great trip! I must say that I perfectly missed 9 inches of snow!

Frustration

I found a Grad program that Im really excited about. Its a 10 month MBA program in Europe. Its through the European University with campuses in Munich, Geneva, Barcelona, Lisbon, Athens, Estonia, Montreaux. The program starts in Oct. I was thinking about going this fall, unless I cant work out the details of my car, than I would go in 2008. They let you spend each term at different campuses if you would like. And I would. I think that I would go to Munich, Athens, and either Barcelona, Lisbon, or Estonia.

My dad totally shot down the idea of higher education. According to him, I should be getting married. As he says it, 'I will only be happy once Im married.' Who is he to say that Im not happy with where I am and what I am doing? Being married is not something that I can really affect more than what I have been doing. I have decided that as long as I am doing what Heavenly Father would have me than that is all I can do. I just wish that my Dad didnt constantly bother me about it. I really didnt get harassed until I turned 25 y/o. I think that my dad forgot that he married my mom when she was 30! I think that that earns me another 5 years harassment free.

Time Slips By

I have been here in Boston for 3 years, next month. I have been feeling like its time to return to my gypsey ways and move. This is going to be hard, as Boston is wonderful. But Im really starting to feel the need. I didnt want to think about it until things with Val were more settled, but I think that has happened. Therefore, my wanderlust is getting the best of me.

What do to?

Where to go?

The possibilties are endless. Well, as endless as my sometimes lazy persona makes them. I simply want to find a purpose to my move.

I could go to San Francisco. Home of the Giants, trolley cars, and beautiful beaches. Or there is the land of sun and warmth in Phoenix or San Diego. There is free rent in Dallas. Rain in Seattle. . . . Or simply just stay in Boston. I dont want to leave until I feel a purpose.

My true love is to travel. I want to see it all. I want to experince it all. How can make a living at this? Hummmm.

Grad School in Europe. That just might be the direction to go. . . .

Wallow

I need some time to wallow. It reminds me of the episode of Gilmore Girls when Rory and Dean first broke up. She kept herself so busy she couldnt think about the loss. And then it finally hit her and she was found on the couch crying with a large tub of Ben and Jerrys ice cream. That was last week for me, staying busy. With the new roommate moving in, I just kept going. From one thing to the next.

But last night, I took the night to wallow. I probably didnt do as much wallowing as I should of. But I know that last night will not be the only night of wallowing for me. Its really hard for me to become unattached to people or ideas. When I get something into my head, its hard to shake it. It is not so say that my testimony is less strong. Its just how I am.

Dream vs Nightmares

What happens when your dreams come true? The Princess rides off into the sunset with Prince Charming. What happens when a nightmare comes true? And if that nightmare of yours comes true, not to you, but someone close to you?

My niece had a seizure at school on Friday. She was taken to the hospital, and after testing they found a 3.7 cm growth on the left side of the brain. They dont know what it is, but will be doing more test and surgery this week.

For the last eight years, this is my biggest nightmare. I have always felt like one day I will be taken to the hospital and they will finally find something to explain this constant pain in my head.

I found out about this on Sat morning. But with a crazy busy weekend, I didnt fully compute what was going on until late Sunday, and then more on Monday. Mixed with other emotional conversations from the weekend, I broke down. I could not stop crying at work. I finally had to leave. My medicine to deal with life, is to watch a movie, preferably alone. Alittle weird, maybe. But its a way to be apart of someone elses life for a couple of hours. When I come back to reality, I usually have a larger perspective, and can think.

Contentment

I love Boston. I dont think that I have ever really truly love a place, until now. I walk around in the city, and I just feel at home. I drive around, and although I might be yelling at other drivers or pedestrians, and I love the feeling of accomplishment. (Unless you have been to Boston and tried to maneuver yourself through, I just cant explain. It can be a cross between Egyptian driving, and just plain stupidity!)

Boston is so absolutely quirky. Bathroom light switch is not in the bathroom is a good start. But even with the quirkiness of it all. Its has its beauty.

I love the character of the city. I love the big city life in a small town feel. I love the change of seasons. I love being able to take public transportation around town. I love being so close to so many other places. I love walking through the Prudential on my way home from work. I love driving fast down Storrow. I love driving back into Boston via I-93 and the Zakim Bridge. I love being able to see the skyline from the I-95 tollbooth. I love eating at diners. I love hanging out with my Books and Basketball friends. I love 4th of Julys Boston style, whether its watching the fireworks by canoe on the Charles, or from the Mass Ave Bridge, or just chillin on the bank of the Charles while listening to the Boston Pops. I love the people that I have meet and the situations that I have been apart of and learned so much from.

All of this is making it so much harder to find something else for me. I dont want to move on unless there is a definite reason to move on. I love this city. I dont want to leave it on a whim. But Im starting to feel the itch. The itch to do something new, and experience new things. But I have to find the right "thing."

One Month

Its been over a month since I have had caffeine! I have to admit that Im pretty darn proud of myself. There was no initial thought to stop drinking it. But after a couple of days, I just wanted to see how long I could go, more or less in an effort to prove that Im not addicted to it. Throughout the last month, I didnt really feel like any of my headaches were from the lack of caffeine, and really just about the same as always.

Oh how I really miss the taste of Pepsi and Dr. Pepper at the moment. Too bad the convenience store across from work only sells Diet Caffeine Free Pepsi. I would rather drown myself.
